WBCN Broadcasts Stolen FBI Memos

Radio station WBCN-??? broadcast two excerpts from a package of stolen FBI documents this morning at about 12:20 a.m. The group of documents concerned surveillance of suspicious organizations and individuals and the rewarding of FBI informants.

The Citizens Commission to Investigate the FBI allegedly took the documents from the FBI's Media, Penn. office, WBCN reported that it was broadcasting the documents immediately in order to thwart an injunction against their dissemination that Attorney General John N. Mitchell will seek later this morning in Washington.

The first memo, a December, 1970 directive from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, called for increased surveillance of black student unions and other black groups on campuses. The other memo, entitled "New Left Notes- Philadelphia- Edition One" concerned the travel and fees of student informers.
