Alfred Robbed

By Steven P. Lansky

Two men robbed William Alfred '38, professor of English, at gunpoint at his Cambridge home Friday evening, stealing two dollars and a cane given to him by the late philosopher Raphael Demos.

Alfred said last night the two thieves, whom he described as black males about 18 to 20 years old, rang his doorbell at 6:55 p.m. and asked to use his telephone.

Alfred, who said he thought they might once have been students at a nearby school whom he now didn't recognize, admitted them and started to walk toward his kitchen.

When he turned around, he said, the taller man was pointing a large revolver at him. The thieves emptied his pockets and left, he said.
