Harvard Dominates All-Ivy Selections

The Harvard varsity hockey team, which won its second Ivy League championship in a row by virtue of a perfect 12-0 league slate this season, dominated the All-Ivy choices as selected last week by the league coaches. Goaltender Brian Petrovek, defenseman Ed Rossi and forwards Randy Roth and Jim Thomas were all voted to the Ivy League All-Star first team. Defenseman Steve Janicek received a second team slot, while forward Jim McMahon won honorable mention.

Harvard had the only two first-team unanimous selections in Petrovek and Rossi. Sophomore Petrovek finished the season with a league-leading 2-24 goals allowed per game average. Rossi, a senior, paced the Harvard defensive corps this year, set a league record of 23 assists in a single season by a defenseman and, with Petrovek, received the maximum 60 votes.

Roth, the only first-team repeater from last year, received 55 votes. Thomas, who along with Roth led the potent Crimson offensive attack, was also named to the first-team forward line.

Janicek teamed with Rossi to comprise the Crimson's first defensive pairing, while McMahon centered the third line, playing between Dave Bell and Steve Dagdigian.

Cornell had the other two first line selections in senior defenseman Steve Bajinski and senior forward Dave Peace.

Dartmouth forward Tom Fleming, who was named to the first team last year as a sophomore, failed to make the first team this year, and was named to the second team instead.
