The Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) tentatively approved a proposal this week that would give Harvard almost $1 million to compensate the University for the extension of the Red Line through Harvard Square.

The University will install air conditioners and an extra pane of glass in rooms facing Mass. Ave.

"I don't know how much more they could soundproof the dorm--you can always hear the pounding." Kenneth Mendez '82, a resident of Wigglesworth A-12, said yesterday.

"It's the best they could do, but it will be a nuisance the residents here are going to have to live with," he added.
