Assembly Elects New Officers, Selects Cornfeld as Chairman

By Susan K. Brown

The Student Assembly last night elected Leslie A. Cornfeld '81 its new chairman in its first meeting of the semester.

The assembly also elected Peter B. Fleischer '80 vice chairmen, Aprille Murphy '83 secretary and David C. King '81 treasurer.

Cornfeld said last night her major goal for the semester is to publicize the activities of the Student Assembly through:

* Meeting twice each semester in which the delegates of each House inform all House residents of assembly activities and solicit suggestions;

* Periodic columns in The Crimson listing all committee and major sub-committee meetings and the assembly agenda; and

* Announcements in all House bulletins about assembly projects.

"We have to convince people of the important role at this school for the Student Assembly," Fleischer said yesterday.

Cornfield added that while she is pleased with the achievements of the assembly so far, "I would like to see us do a lot less planning and a lot more acting."

Cornfield added the assembly is considering possible open forums between students and administrators and a College-wide student center.

Within two weeks the assembly will also hold a used book fair in the Yard, she added.

The assembly will also continue to work for a library open 24 hours a day or extended beyond current closing times; a large-scale concert; and a dance marathon.

"Each Committee on the assembly is going to be responsible for a major project each month," she added.

Cornfeld, a Crimson editor, is a member of the Committee on Housing and Undergraduate Life, and the Winthrop House Committee.
