The Crimson lost its top two fencers this weekend en route to a triple defeat at the hands of UPenn (10-60), Temple University (15-1) and Cornell University (16-0), in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Number one fencer Kathy Lowry dropped out of the Cornell match when she became violently ill. Coach Sheldon Berman said yesterday she may not recover in time for the New Englands on March 14.

Senior Captain Jenny Laforet, who has been out all season with knee problems, stepped in for Carolyn Powell when the sophomore withdrew from the Cornell match. "With Kathy Lowry sick and their getting beaten by Temple, they more or less gave up," Berman said.
