Yardlings Steven Ernst and John O'Brien scored two touchdowns apiece to lead the freshman football team to a crushing 38-6 defeat of the Naval Academy Prep School at Soldiers Field Saturday. The victory gives the Crimson a 2-0 record with seven games remaining.
Ernst yesterday credited both of his 2-yd. touchdown plunges to the diligent execution of the Harvard offensive line. "With the line making the holes, when it came down to the goal line, it was just bread and butter," he said.
Harvard kicker James Villanueva--as proficient as the offensive line--successfuly converted four extra points and a 26-yd. field goal.
Ernst and other teammates admitted that Navy was not as tough as they had expected. Harvard played noticeably better than in last week's defeat of New Hampton, and out-performed NAPS both offensively and defensively.
Harvard will attempt to extend its undefeated record next week when the freshman 'B' team plays Tufts at home. Ernst added, "We're a good team. If we stay healthy and play up to our expectations, it'll be a good year."
