NEW HAVEN, Conn.--The intramural department at Yale has reported that student theft of equipment has cost the department about $1000 this fall, straining its fall equipment budget of $1666.
"This is by far the worst case of stolen equipment in my three years here," Ed Mockus, assistant director of intramural sports, said, adding that 24 missing footballs, valued at between $28 and $40 each, and some soccer balls have cost the department about $1000.
"People often walk off with the balls accidentally," Mockus said, but added that some students take the balls on purpose because they think they deserve them. "One guy said to me the other day, 'We pay $10,000 a year, we ought to get something,'" he added, the Yale Daily New reported last Wednesday.
