Unidentified Man Steals $60 From Holyoke Ctr. Office

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An unidentified white male stole a cash box containing $60 from an unlocked desk drawer at the Harvard Information Center yesterday afternoon, according to University police records.

Employee Eleanor Ford, who was alone in the Holyoke Center office at the time, said she had left her desk for a moment at 1:30 P.M. when the man apparently entered and took the cash box. No suspect was apprehended.

The lock to the drawer had previously been broken, Ford said. "It's impossible to keep it locked," she added.

Ford said money has been stolen from the office before.

University police statistics report that, as of September 25, there have been 103 thefts of less than $100 since July 1

Information Center Manager Barbara M. Baker could not be reached for comment.

Ford said that she was not assaulted or threatened in any way. "Nonetheless, it's a nasty shock when we're trying to be nice to everybody and someone takes our money," she added "It's a very busy office I can't carry the box around."
