PHILADELPHIA--A freshman at the University of Pennsylvania was acquitted last week of the rape of a fellow freshman by a Philadelphia juvenile court judge.
The acquired freshman would have faced a jail sentence of 10 to 20 years if he had been convicted. Mel Nasielski, an administrative assistant to the Philadelphia district attorney, said Judge Leonard Ivanoski discharged the defendant due to insufficient evidence that the plaintiff actually was forced to have intercourse.
Officials would not release the names of the plaintiff and the defendant, who are both minors.
