Celtics Maul Bullets, 109-91, Lead Best-of-Seven Series, 1-0

The Boston Celtics paced by 21 points from M.I. Carr, toppled the Washington Bullets, 109-91, at Boston Garden yesterday to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series.

In the other Eastern Conference semifinal, the Philadelphia 76ers the Central Division champions Milwaukee Bucks, 125-122 in Milwaukee.

The Bullets who eliminated New Jersey, 2-0, in their mini-series, led, 52-50, at halftime, but were put away by a third-quarter Boston spurt. The teams will meet again Wednesday night at Boston Garden in Game Two of the series.

Elsewhere, in the deciding game of their best-of-three mini-series, the Seattle Supersonics moved into the Western Conference semifinals with a 104-83 victory over the Houston Rockets in Seattle. The Sonics, who beat Houston, 102-87, in the first game but dropped a 91-70 decision Friday night, will now play San Antonio, which received a first-round bye Phoenix will meet Los Angeles in the other Western Conference semifinal series.
