Car Crash Hospitalizes Three Leverett Students

Three Leverett House students were critically injured and hospitalized after a car crash near Natick, Mass. early yesterday morning.

Roland T. Heacock '84 was listed in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.

Wayne L. Johnson '84 and Peter B. Strong '85 were placed in the intensive care unit at Natick's Leonard Morse Hospital after being admitted around 1:30 a.m., John H. Lutrell Sr., hospital director of Community Relations said, Johnson was listed in stable condition. Strong was in fair condition yesterday evening.

Heacock was also brought to Morse Hospital in "very, very poor" condition and with "brain damage," said Lutrell.

He was sent to MGH for more extensive treatment at their neurological service center, Lutrell said. But MGH would not release any prognosis on Heacock's condition.

Johnson and Strong have "multiple trauma, extensive head and internal injuries," Lutrell added.

"I'm not promising any overnight miracles [for Johnson and Strong] and the prognosis is guarded but good," Lutrell said.

Lutrell said he did not know how long both would remain hospitalized.

Car Flipped Over

The crash reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m. yesterday morning.

The car was found turned over on its roof after an apparent one-car crash, Lutrell said, adding the car appeared to have flipped over several times and all three victims were trapped in the car.

A wrecking crew had to be called out to help get the three out of the car, Lutrell said.

Natick Police officials confirmed that the accident occurred on Route 27 but would not release additional information until today.

Leverett House Senior Tutor Thomas R. Dingman '67 reportedly announced the incident at dinner yesterday but refused later comment.
