NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A council of Extension School students last nigh kicked off is petition campaign aimed at reopening the Lehman Gall lounge, which has been closed to E-School students in the evenings since September 1983.

The petition will be circulated during the next few weeks to extension school students, members of Dudley House (whole offices and common rooms are located in Lehman half), and freshmen living in dorms near Lehman, according to Bryan Ferrick, a member of the newly-elected Extension Student Affairs Committee (ESAC). All three groups would benefit from a hall open nearby with sending machines, he added.

Power in Numbers

"We believe that there's power in number's" Ferrick told 30 students attending an ESAC meeting last night, encouraging them to gather upwards of 3000 signatures asking for Lehman to be reopened.

Ferrick said that, by encouraging more social activities, the council is attempting to convince Extension School students that there is move to a school than an education and a diploma. "We just need a place where we can to and meet other people." he said.

Four potential clubs were presented at the meeting, including a business investment and discussion group, a foreign language club, a social activities club, and master's degree in arts and literature program (A.T.M). Clubs would use Lehman Hall as a meeting place, Ferrick said.

Some 12,380 students are enrolled in the extension school's 500 programs. The program offers continuing education and degree programs to Boston area students Enrollment is open, although candidates for the Associate's Bachelor's and Master's in Extension Studies degrees go through competitive admissions.
