To the Editors of the Crimson:

As a former student of one of the most talented and inspiring professors at Harvard College, I was appalled to see such a fuss made over Professor James Q. Wilson's radar detector-a device which is not only legal in Massachusetts, but frequently used as well. A quick walk through any of the student parking lots in fact demonstrates that few undergraduates see anything wrong with owning such instruments.

For a professor whose CUE ratings are consistently among the school's highest and whose interest in teaching is unmatched, such sensationalized publicity hardly, seems deserved. If the present editorial board is as concerned about the quality of undergraduate teaching as it claims, their it should put its pens where its mouths are Such journalistic mudslinging directed at dedicated professors is an odd way to facilitate that goal.

As a former Crimson editor, I am certain that you could have found more productive ways to use your space on Super Tuesday." If not, perhaps the National Enquirer has some openings. Leslie A. Cornfieid '81
