HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
To the Editors of The Crimson:
As Harvard Alumni, we are concerned about the University's continued intransigence in the matter of investments in South Africa.
We feel the sale of less than one percent of Harvard's stock, presumably an example of "constructive engagement," does not represent any real change in Harvard's substantial economic involvement in that country. The daily repression and slaughter of Black people in South Africa makes a mockery of the argument that slow progress is being achieved.
We think that Harvard should join in the growing number of colleges and universites which have responded in the appropriate way, by complete divestiture. Andrew C. Zimmerman '75 Jonathon M. Harris '69 Susan Jhirad '64 Peter N. Smith '83 Charles C. Bering '71
