IOP Distributes Packet With Data on '88 Race

The Kennedy-School's Institute of Politics (IOP) is distributing a packet on the upcoming presidential election containing position papers from all of the major Democratic and Republican candidates in the 1988 presidential race and information for students interested in getting involved in the various campaigns.

Project coordinator Arthur S. Rublin '89 said the "Campaign '88 Information Binder" is "an informative introduction to the candidates' views and is a valuable resource for campaign contacts."

Questionaires were sent out last spring to all of the Democratic and Republican candidates asking them to provide phone numbers, campaign contacts, internship opportunities, and other information for students who want to work for a presidential campaign. Sen. Paul Simon (D-III.) was not an announced candidate at the time and is not represented in the booklet.

Rublin, the originator of the project, was helped by the IOP's Student Advisory Committee, which funded the project. SAC members helped distribute the binder to all the River House libraries, Hilles Library, the Kennedy School library and the IOP reception desk.

"We wanted to make the information easily available to students so that they could get in touch with the different campaigns," said SAC Chair Claire Fleming '88.

Rublin said that the committee's purpose was to make it easier for students to get involved in the upcoming election. "The IOP really wants to stress student involvement in electoral politics," he said.
