Fleet Bank in Square Robbed Once Again

By Greta H. Jacobsen, Contributing Writer

On Wednesday afternoon, an unidentified man robbed the Harvard Square branch of Fleet Bank.

At 2:15 p.m., a short, stalky white male entered and robbed the bank, according to an FBI spokesperson. The suspect did not brandish a weapon, and no one was injured in the holdup, according to the FBI.

The suspect has not been apprehended, the spokesperson added, and he said he could not comment on whether or not the robber left with any money.

The Harvard Square branch, located at 1414 Mass. Ave., was also robbed on Oct. 4, 2001.

But the branch is not an usually popular target of robberies, the FBI spokesperson said.

The bank closed after the robbery Wednesday afternoon and a sign posted on its doors instructed customers to go to Fleet’s Central Square branch. It reopened yesterday.

Fleet representatives declined to comment on the incident.
