Harvard House Starter Packs — Your Guide to House Essentials!
RIVER CENTRAL
Adams: Your acorn boxers might be the most... interesting (*cough cough,* weird) housing day merch item, but they’re certainly iconic. With the rest of your starter pack comes the essential rainbow makeup (for drag night!), and gift cards to places in the square—proximity means you won’t be able to resist that midnight snack!
Quincy: To welcome you to the People’s House, your starter pack has stationery to invite all your friends over (the dhall is so easy to get into and a popular meeting spot)! To add on, get some ski gear (if not to actually ski then for Quinski), and of course, a proper disguise (Flyby inside joke . . . iykyk)
Lowell: It’ll be wise to begin this starter pack with etiquette lessons, so you don’t mess up at Lowell tea! Next, a blue body suit—what better way to keep the identity of the Lowell blue man a secret than to have everyone cosplay? Finally, your starter pack will come with some mini bells—so you can join in annoying serenading people on Sundays.
RIVER WEST
Kirkland: Starting off with some state-of-the-art earplugs to block out the construction noise (rip)! But don’t worry, you’ll also get some cool Kirkland merch (yes, you probably win out on House spirit), and a calendar to keep track of all the fun cultural holiday celebrations and events.
Eliot: Worried construction won’t be done by the time you graduate? This starter pack suggests the next best thing—a postcard of OG Eliot, so you can continue praying for renovations to be finished ASAP. With the postcard, you’ll get a fancy formal outfit (can’t attend Fête without it) and a musical instrument of your choice (in case you get last-minute dragged into Battle of the Bands.
Winthrop: Yes, we know the dhall smell fiasco was overexaggerated, but you’d be wise to keep some air freshener around, just in case. Besides that, your starter pack will come with personal gym equipment (proximity to the MAC means more incentive to work out... right?), and a mini IM trophy—we know how competitive you guys are about that ;)
RIVER EAST:
Leverett: You probably saw the sea of green bunny ears storming the Yard last week—with this starter pack, you’ll get a pair too, so you can be officially welcomed into Lev! With that, is a polaroid camera (we have the perfect Weeks Bridge view to take sunset pictures), and of course, a reminder to have your ID on you at ALL TIMES (or our dhall monitor Bon Lee will come for you . . .)
Mather: Of course, starting off with a classic Harvard Shoo magnet of Dunster (because the best thing about Mather is the view . . . jk, please don’t come for me). Your starter pack also comes with some awesome luxuries, from a glass of wine (formal Fridays!) to pottery lessons (make good use of that studio!).
Dunster: Dunster is well-known for its dark academia (or as the HoCo chairs would put it, Hist-Lit) aesthetic, so we’ll welcome you with a matching desk setup—candles, quills and all! Add to that a privacy curtain (you’ll need it for all the doubles), and of course, singing lessons, so you can get roped into the very musical housing day videos with at least the minimum experience.
QUAD:
Cabot: Cabot House? Cabot Library? Cabot yogurt? Brace yourself for clarifying which Cabot in every conversation. But on the bright side, get excited to adopt a fish (like adopt-a-highway but much cooler) from the aquarium, and enjoy bike rides to and from the Quad (who needs bike insurance when you have the repair shop right there)!
Pfoho: Obviously, we have to start with the iconic polar bear, in stuffed animal form! That’ll be followed by a revised dictionary with all the fs replaced by pfs—got to start practicing your Pfohocabulary! And of course, as the farthest (sorry, pfarthest) house from the yard, finish it off with an inevitable Passeogo download.
Currier: You’ll of course get a mini tree or plant for your room, and remember those hiking shoes—both for the fun outdoorsy activities, and the not-so-fun Qualk. Finally, in light of your recent Housing Day Video win, keep up that supremacy with some screenwriting/film lessons to complete your starter pack.
And that’s a wrap! No matter what house you got, the most important thing to bring with you is a positive attitude —because you’re going to grow to love it before you know it! Was that too cheesy? I’ll see myself out...
