Blocking Group Names Roundup 2026
Part of the hard work of preparing for Housing Day for first-years was, of course, manifesting their favorite House, engaging in River Run, and most importantly, coming up with a blocking group name. This year’s batch was nothing short of punny, topical, risque, intellectual, and remarkably self-aware. So, here’s Flyby’s breakdown of the twelve most hilarious and creative names from the Class of 2029!
1. 4FreakShow
Some of you might be too unc to get this one… If you were part of the niche Covid-19 fandom, you can appreciate its name for all its glory. But if the name sounds foreign to you, just take away that the name is not describing ourselves as “freaks” (that would be too “she’s so crazzzzzy” territory.)
2. Blocksberg
The freshmen tried to explain this one to us. We still don’t really get the reference… looks like we’re uncs here.
3. LGBobaT
Do we really need to explain this one? I mean, as a general ally — and especially as a Harvard Square boba empire ally — this name truly is a match made in heaven. At once subtle and so very not. Surely this would convince the housing gods to give you a river house. It’s not a good look otherwise…#bobaphobic.
4. Wasian Persuasion
Okay, so this name only works for a select few of you. But if the shoe fits, this surely is a name that your rhyming-obsessed fourth-grade English would’ve loved. The jury is still out on whether this can persuade Cabot not to come a-knocking on March 27th. Keep us posted!
5. Hala
They “ain’t no hollaback girls?” More like they “ain’t no hala block girls” because they took the first initial for each member of the group to make it cuter.
6. Thayer 110
So this is…boring. Sorry! We aim to please, but we also aim to be objective reporters. At least it’s a little better than forgetting to come up with a blocking group name and just using your full government name. Yikes.
7. La Familia
This one is so very sweet. It’s almost as if this blocking group was a DSO industry plant meant to persuade impressionable freshmen to actually choose a PG name. Lowkey heed that warning, though, or you’ll forever go down in Expos archive fame as that blocking group.
8. Do Remy Fa So La Ti Do
Do Remy — we could wax poetry about our favorite cat on campus. We’re basically manifesting a river house by invoking Remy’s name, given how much time he spends around this part of campus. Home is truly never far from where Remy is.
9. Big Backyardigans
This name is a fun way to pay homage to the big back epidemic, but in a demure, nostalgic way. Who doesn’t want to be reminded of Pablo, Austin, Uniqua, Tyrone, and Tasha. If you don’t know these names, keep that information to yourself. Spare me the mid-life unc crisis.
10. Fetty Block
2016 is back, and so is Fetty Wap. As the king of Musical.ly, Mr. Trap Queen is back from a short stint in prison with one goal: to bring back pop. And we are oh-so-on board #FettyforCrimsonJam2026.
11. Chewblocka
A mutual love of Star Wars brought this blocking group together. We’re envisioning cozy movie nights and board game nights for this group. The force (of friendship) is strong with this one.
12. Hottest Table In Berg
This statement is definitely a fact. A great ego boost whenever an email addressed to the “Hottest Table in Berg” blocking group lands in the inbox.
13. Top 20% + 4
Dear Top 20% +4 Blocking Group… This is honestly the smartest group here - truly deserving of their place in the top 20% + 4. If you want something, then you have to manifest it - they’ve solidified their position at the top.
14. Tampon Gate
This group dressed up as the Royal Family for Halloween… Charles and Camilla, the queen, and Diana, the rightful queen. The rest, as they say, is history. Or something like that. We don’t really know the rest of the backstory, but maybe it’s okay if we keep it that way.
