President Edward Hitchcock, at the head of the hygienic department at Amherst College, delivered an address before the students of the Union Theological Seminary last week Monday on "Physical Education." He spoke of the requirements of a gymnasium which should be well ventilated and well lighted, besides being well furnished, and advocates boxing with gloves and playing billiards, which like all other forms of exercise in a gymnasium should be done with moderation. Young men, he said, should not get over-winded, because the heart is a tender organ in young men as well as in young women. [Audible smiles.] Regularity was the chief requirement in physical training. As to the time of exercise for students, he advised the early part of the evening.
