HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
A gentleman prompted by curiosity, recently made investigations on the subject of the decrease in the number of Freshmen rooming in the yard, with the following interesting results.
In 1874.5 60 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1875.6 59 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1876 7 43 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1877.8 59 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1878.9 62 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1879.80 60 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1880.1 71 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1881.2 58 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1882.3 54 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1883.4 51 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In 1884.5 48 per ct. roomed in the yard.
In this table, only Freshmen proper are numbered, as it would be difficult to group all the first year men in the college together. Hilton Block, Little's Block, Holyoke, and Beck, though not properly in the yard, relate to the same question, and are included.
