Gymnasium at Columbia.

The prospect of a new $100,000 gymnasium is creating a great deal of talk among the students of Columbia College. It has been the custom in past years for the graduating class to erect a memorial window, but '86 has decided to give its money for a fund to be used in aid of a new gymnasium. Speculation is rife whether or not the scheme will be successful. In order to raise the required amount, the alumni will have to be depended upon for the greater bulk of the money and with them rests in a great measure the successful issue of the plan. A committee of three has been appointed to canvass the alumni of the college for subscriptions. According to all accounts the alumni who have so far been seen have given their hearty support to the plan verbally, but it yet remains to be seen what they will do financially. There is no doubt that Columbia needs a gymnasium of her own in the worst way, as she is entirely dependent upon a preparatory school close by for the means with which to train her crews. There is but little question as to the location of the gymnasium as there are several lots in close proximity to the college which would serve as excellent sites for the erection of a gymnasium. The class of '86 deserves the best wishes of all for her success in securing the requisite amount of money.
