The '89 Crew.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The '89 crew are at present rowing as follows:

Weight.

Bow - Dustan 156

2 - Hebard 166

3 - Perry 167

4 - Markoe 177

5 - Hight 156

6 - Sears 172

8 - Parker 163

Stroke - Pfeiffer 168

Cox - Whitney.

Of these men Pfeiffer, Parker, Hight and Perry are old oars. Dustan rowed for a time last year, but was unfortunately taken sick before the race. Sears, Markoe and Hebard are new men.

The crew has had very hard luck, inasmuch as four of last year's eight are rowing with the 'Varsity; the loss of stroke being especially felt. A number of new men have been tried, and it is only within the last few days that the regular crew was definitely decided upon. There are a number of individual faults. The following are, perhaps, especially noticeable:

Stroke - Is apt to hang, and shoots away with too much jerk.

7 - Settles back too far at the finish.

6 - Like stroke, he is too jerky in his motions.

5 - Rows short.

4 - Slumps at both ends of stroke.

3 - Must watch his man carefully.

2 - Slumps and should try to be rather more graceful and easy in his motions.

Bow - Should row from his stretcher.

As a whole, the crew hang badly at the full reach. Besides this fault the men must be very careful to row more smoothly, the blade work especially being very rough.

The crew has had little or no outside coaching, Capt. Parker having had almost entire control over the men.

It is of course hard to say anything about the result of next Friday's race, but in all probability '89 will beat the freshman with a chance of doing better.
