Harvard won her second championship game on Saturday defeating Wesleyan at Hampden park, Springfield, by a score of sixty-seven to two. In spite of the damp day, the grounds were in good condition, but the number of spectators was comparatively small.

The teams lined up as follows:

HARVARD. POSITIONS. WESLEYAN.

Upton (Blanchard) tackle Crane

Cranston guard Bickford

Tilton centre Fogg

P. Trafford guard Brown

Stickney tackle Moore

Crosby end Beers

Dean quarter-back Peck

Lee 1/2bk Slayback

Saxe (White) 1/2bk McDonald c., (Day)

B. Trafford full back Hall

Harvard showed much improvement over her game of a week ago, but there were still a large number of weak points. The greatest fault was in the unsteady play; at times the eleven did brilliant work, playing a quick, sharp game, and breaking through and tackling well. At other times, however, affairs were just reversed; the men were slow in dropping on the ball, allowed themselves to be blocked off easily, and failed to hold well in the rushline. There was repeated confusion from a misunderstanding of the signals by the rushline, and the backs frequently went in direct opposition to their signals. Both sides played largely a kicking game, and in punting Hall, Wesleyan's fullback, was superior to Trafford. In Harvard's rushline Crosby played a very vigorous game, making some superb tackles, and following the ball well, but blocking poorly. On the other end McDonald several times got around Hutchinson. The three centre men broke through well, but at times failed to block hard. Dean at quarter-back played a strong game, using his head well, while Lee showed improvement in holding the ball and tackling. Trafford at fullback played steadily and well all the way through.

Wesleyan at times held Harvard well and made long gains through the centre and around the ends.

Play began at twenty minutes to three. Harvard had the east end of the field and the kick off. The ball was passed to Lee who made thirty-five yards by a very pretty run. Upton rushed twice in succession and gained fifteen more yards. Stickney ran across the line with the ball and made the first touchdown in thirty seconds after play began. No goal. Score 4-0. The ball was brought to the twenty-five yard line and McDonald made a good rush. On the third down Wesleyan was given five yards for Harvard's off side play. On the third down again without gain, Hall kicked and Dean had the ball down for Harvard. Lee fumbled it and lost eight yards. Saxe immediately after fumbled, and lost the ball to Wesleyan. On the third down Hall punted, and Stickney fell on the leather. Lee and Upton made good against, and Stickney broke through the line and ran fifteen yards. Upton, Lee, and B. Trafford advanced the play well into Wesleyan's territory and Dean made five yards and scored. Time 8 minutes. No goal. Score 8-0. The ball went to Wesleyan on a misplay of Dean's. The full-backs kicked back and forth for several minutes, neither side making any gain. At last Harvard adopted rushing tactics again, and White, Stickney, Lee and Blanchard took the play well down towards Wesleyan's line. Lee made a superb rush to the five yard line. Lee lost ground and Trafford was forced to kick to Hall again. He fumbled, and Blanchard got the ball and started for Wesleyan's line. He was tackled but passed the ball to Crosby, who being tackled in his turn gave it to Cranston. He spurted across the line and made a touchdown. Time 16 minutes. No goal. Score 44-2. When the ball was put in play McDonald started to run around Crosby who pushed him back five yards. The ball went to Harvard but she soon lost it again. Hall tried to kick from Wesleyan's five-yard line, but P. Trafford stopped the ball. It bounded over the line and Cranston dropped on it. Time 18 minutes. Goal. Score 50-2.

When the ball was put in play again Wesleyan made four downs in succession and Harvard took the leather. She could make no gain, however, and Trafford kicked. Hall returned and B. Trafford caught the ball on the run again and advanced twenty yards.
