Sketches of the College Buildings

A group of pen and ink sketches by Mr. Papanti of Boston, cousin of the well-known dancing teacher, has just been published in a large engraving. The central piece is a sketch of the quadrangle from in front of Grays, together with University, Harvard, and a corner of Massachusetts Halls. The view is unusually complete, and is a difficult one to secure. Around this are grouped two rows of single views of the various halls and buildings, including the dormitories outside of the yard, the recitation halls, Memorial Hall, the two gymnasiums, the Law and Medical school buildings, the observatory, the laboratories, the museums, the two chapels, the Hasty Pudding building, and several private houses. Even the old Thayer Common Hall, which has been destroyed, is represented. A portrait of President Eliot, and a drawing of the John Harvard statue also find places among the pictures. Everything is brought up to date, and even the promised gate is anticipated. At the corners of the outside border of the engraving are the various seals which the college has had at different times, and a border is formed for the central view out of the seals of the college societies.

The whole group is handsomely printed and forms a valuable memento of university life. The engravings are for sale at five dollars each, and a large number have already been subscribed for by graduates. Mr. Papanti has in preparation views of Exeter academy and Amherst college, which will probably be published next fall.
