Japanese Fencing.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An attempt has been made recently to have an exhibition of Japanese fencing given by some of the Japanese who are now in the University. The equipments, consisting of rather elaborate armor and foils, can, however, not be obtained in this country, and it will be impracticable to get them from Japan this year. It is not improbable that arrangements will be made so that an exhibition can be given in one of the winter meetings next year.

Japanese fencing is almost unknown in this country, but there is little doubt that if it were introduced it would become popular. The contestants are so thoroughly protected that there is much more apparent fierceness manifested than there is in European fencing, and there is hardly a muscle of the body that is not brought into play.
