LIVE UPDATES: Pro-Palestine Protesters Begin Encampment in Harvard Yard
The 'varsity nine was defeated in an exciting ten-inning game by Williams at Williamstown on Saturday afternoon. At the beginning of the fifth inning Harvard led by a score of 8 to 3. In this inning Williams, by good batting, through an error of judgment by Highlands, and Hayes's muff of a fly, scored 7 runs. Harvard tied the score in the sixth, but Williams scored once in the seventh. Harvard was shut out in this inning but evened matters in the eighth. Neither side scored in the ninth, but in the tenth Williams got two runs on errors and an opportune hit of Hammatt's.
Harvard's fielding was very poor, but the difference in the diamond at Williamstown from that on Jarvis Field bothered the men a good deal. It is impossible to adapt the playing at once from a smooth ground to a grass surface.
The batting on the other hand was exceedingly good. Here again the Harvard men suffered on account of the slowness of the field. The two-base hits would probably all of them have rolled far enough on either Holmes or Jarvis to be good for three bases.
