HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
J. H. Jones '96, who was chosen a delegate to represent the Harvard Civil Service Reform Club at the convention held in Chicago to organize a national league of college civil service reform clubs, returned from Chicago last evening.
The convention was held May 3. Delegates were present from Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Lincoln, Wisconsin and Harvard Universities, and Shurtleff College. Mr. William Dudley Foulke, president of the Indiana Civil Service Reform League, was also present.
A constitution was formed based upon that of the National Civil Service Reform League. The following officers were elected: President, S. D. Demmon; secretary and treasurer, W. Bump, of the University of Wisconsin. An executive committee was formed of five members, chosen from Harvard, University of Chicago, Northwestern and Johns Hopkins. A general committee was appointed consisting of one delegate from each club in the league. The vice-presidents will be appointed by the president from the faculties of the colleges represented. A banquet was held in the evening.
