The first of the series of six smoke talks on football was given last night at the Colonial Club. The speaker of the evening was Joseph H. Sears '89, half-back on the elevens of '86, '87 and '88.

He was introduced by Captain Wrightington, who explained that the series of talks had been arranged to keep up the interest in football at Harvard throughout the year.

Mr. Sears spoke on the "Lessons shown by the development of the Yale team of 1895." He limited himself to the work done by Yale in the Princeton game, explaining the plays, and basing upon them recommendations for the work next year at Harvard.

Among those present who are connected with Harvard athletics were Marshall Newell, Mr. Deland, W. H. Lewis, W. C. Forbes, besides members of last year's 'varsity squad, members of the class teams and men who intend to try for the eleven next fall.

After the talk refreshments were served and the evening was spent in social enjoyment. The next talk will be February 11, on "The Physical Side of Football," by William Blaikie and James G. Lathrop.
