Mass Meeting of Students.

An extremely enthusiastic meeting of students, held last night in the Fogg Museum, was addressed by Mayor Bancroft '78 and Hon. John Read '62, on the subject of Harvard's entering the parade on June 3. Professor Cummings introduced the speakers, after saying a few words himself in favor of Harvard's participation in the parade.

Mayor Bancroft spoke at some length in encouraging the movement. He gave as some of his reasons the fact that examinations were omitted on June merely in order that the students might join the parade, and also the fact all members of the University owed it to themselves and to the graduates to show sufficient enthusiasm to aid the Harvard men who are at the head of the affair. He concluded by saying that students might arrange to wear special costumes or not, as they pleased.

Mr. Read, who is the marshal of the parade, said that he had assigned Harvard a place near the head of the procession, and that he believed that as soon as the students realized the importance of the occasion, they would not for a minute hesitate to participate on June 3. He added that it would be impossible to study on that morning with twenty-five bands passing by the Yard, and that the undergraduates might as well walk in the procession as watch it from their windows.

At the close of the meeting it was unanimously voted by those present to enter the parade themselves and to use their influence in persuading others to do the same. It was also voted that the presidents of the four classes should be the marshals of the Harvard division and that they should appoint their own aids.
