The Corporation of the University has voted to give fifteen thousand dollars toward the improvement of Soldiers Field for athletics in consideration of the abandonment of the Carey Building for athletic purposes after this year. Even if the petition to keep Holmes Field for athletics is granted for this year, the field must be given up next fall and the Carey building will then be of little use for athletics. As it cannot be easily moved to Soldiers Field, it is to be thus disposed of, and, in time, it will probably be used for some University purposes.
Work on the improvement of Soldiers Field will be begun this spring as soon as the weather permits. The stands about the 'Varsity field will first be moved aside and the whole field will then be raised at least as high as the tide-level.
As the locker building is already above the tide-level, it can remain as it is. After the field has been raised the different fields will be laid out and a temporary baseball cage for next winter will probably be erected.
