MOTT HAVEN MEETING.

Many Members of Former Teams Address the Candidates.

A most enthusiastic meeting of candidates for the Mott Haven Team was held last night in Lower Massachusetts for the purpose of ascertaining the material which could be counted upon from which to select a team. For this purpose a number of graduates, men who have been on winning Harvard teams in the past, came out to Cambridge to encourage the new men and give them the benefit of their experience.

W. H. Vincent '97, captain for this coming year first spoke a few words, after whom Mr. Lathrop told the men what the Harvard teams had done in the past and what was expected of them in the future. He pointed out that in order to turn out a winning team it was absolutely necessary that every man who was physically able should try for the team and make the very best of his advantages. For two years Harvard has lost what used to be considered a certain victory. It is time to brace up and profit by mistakes. The first effort must be to develop the full strength of the University and not to go into the games with a crippled team.

G. B. Morison '83 then spoke of the interest which the graduates feel in all the sports and of their desire to do all in their power to promote success.

E. J. Wendell '82, and Dr. Frank Wells '64, the donor of the Wells cup, competed for each spring by the classes, W. H. Goodwin '84, Walter Soren '83, G. H. Kip '83, Gannett Wells '86, Sever Hale '91 and H. M. Wheelwright '94 also made short speeches.

At the end of the meeting it was announced that Gannett Wells '86 would offer a gold medal for the man on the team who makes the most improvement during the coming year.
