The candidates for the Yale University crew went on the water last week. They have been rowing on the weights and in the tank for some time, but as yet no men have been dropped from the squad. On Washington's Birthday a few of the men went on the river for a short time, but cold weather set in again and retarded further work outdoors. The candidates for the crew were first divided into class crews and rowed in the tank for an hour daily. This, with the addition of a run around the Green, constituted the work of the candidates up to last week.

Within a month the material will be thinned down to about thirty men. The work on the water this week will produce the men who will be retained as candidates, and a further cutting down may be expected inside of ten days. The freshman squad has been cut down to twenty-four men. They are being coached by Gordon Brown and will be on the water in the early part of next month.
