Dean, 4; Freshmen, 1.
The Freshman nine was defeated by Dean Academy on Saturday afternoon in an interesting game by the score of 4 to 1. The wretched batting of the Freshmen prevented a better showing as the pitching and fielding were good. Patch pitched a steady, though not remarkable, game for Dean Academy, and succeeded in striking out seventeen men. Only in the second inning were the Freshmen able to hit consecutively, when a single by Maguire and a two-base hit by Adams scored the only run made.
For the Freshmen Tuckerman pitched well, allowing no bases on balls and keeping the hits well scattered, except in the second and third innings, when Dean Academy batted in their four runs. Maguire in centre field played the best game, making four putouts without error and scoring the Freshmen's run.
