The preliminary heats of the races for single sculls, compromises, and wherries will be rowed this afternoon. The course for the single scull race, is one mile down stream from the Arsenal street bridge in Watertown; the course for the compromises and wherries is from a point just below the Stillman Infirmary down to the University boat-house.
The men entered will row in the positions indicated by the order below, counting from the Soldiers Field bank of the river:
SINGLE SCULLS.
First heat; start at 4--Smith, May, Shattuck.
Second heat; start at 4.15--Bryant, Robbins, King.
Third heat; start at 4.30--Fisher, Bartlett, Brooks, Holland.
COMPROMISES.
First heat; start at 4--Locke, Christensen, Shepard.
Second heat; start at 4.15--Watts, Otis, Stairs.
WHERRIES.
First heat; start at 4.30--Howes, Russell, Means, W. Olney.
Second heat; start at 4.45--Lamson, May, Taylor, Bolan.
The officials in the single scull races will be as follows: judges, H. B. Webster '05, and R. Haycock 1L.; starter, R. Foster '04.
For the compromises and wherries, the officials are: judges, M. H. Ivy '04, and N. Wigglesworth '05; starter, H. C. de Rham '04.
The final heats for all three races will be rowed over the same courses tomorrow afternoon; the races for single sculls and compromises will start at 4 o'clock and that for the wherries at 4.15 o'clock. The winner in each heat of the races today will row in the finals.
