The baseball work yesterday was carried on wholly by the University and Freshman squads, owing to the fact that the entire second squad has discontinued practice until later in the season. This step was taken somewhat earlier than usual, owing to the fact that the team is at work out of doors and it has been found impossible to manage two such large squads. From now until after the Easter vacation the entire coaching will be devoted to the University and Freshman squads. It has not been definitely decided whether a separate second team will be formed before or immediately after the Easter vacation.
Both the batting and fielding of the University squad yesterday was the most listless seen this year, and even at this early date seemed most discouraging. The infield candidates held practice for the first time on the diamond, and in this department also, the men were slow and sluggish. The Freshman squad held practice of much the same nature. This squad has now been reduced to 34 men, excluding the battery candidates.
