First Round of Golf Tournament.

Yesterday afternoon, at the Country Club Course, the first round of match play in the tournament for the individual golf championship of the University was completed, the matches resulting as follows: F. Ingalls '04 defeated W. C. Chick '05, 1 up (19 holes); H. B. Hollins '04 defeated H. Davenport '04, 6 up and 5 to play; F. H. Ellis '06 defeated P. A. Proal '05, 2 up and 1 to play; A. L. White '06 defeated H. C. Egan '05, 4 up and 3 to play. The tie between Ingalls and Proal for the silver qualifying medal was not played off, as a special round of 18 holes has been agreed upon.

The closest and most interesting match was between Ingalls and Chick, who finished even up on the first 18 holes. Ingalls, however, won the match by a long putt for a 4 at the extra hole.

Today, in the semi-final round, the following matches will be played: Ingalls vs. Hollins, Ellis vs. White. Pairings for the matches tomorrow will be announced in the CRIMSON.
