Haverford Won Association Football

Last Saturday the University association football team was defeated by Haverford on Soldiers Field by the score of 1 to 0. During the first half neither side had the advantage, and it was due to the brilliant work of the Haverford forwards rather than to any weakness in the Harvard defense that Morris finally scored at the end of the second half. Harvard exhibited good team play and throughout the game kept the ball well under control. The individual playing of the members of the Haverford team was faster and more consistent, and their greater experience made up for their somewhat erratic kicking, which was due to the strong wind. For Haverford, Morris and Lowry played exceptionally well.

The line-up: HARVARD  HAVERFORD Pell, g.  g., H. Pearson Dexter, l.f.b.  r.f.b., Lowry MacLaurin, r.f.b.  l.f.b., Dickson Thackara, l.h.b.  r.h.b., Rossmaessler Brooks, c.h.b.  c.h.b., Pleasants Squires, r.h.b.  l.h.b.. R. Pearson Noyes, l.o.f.  r.o.f., Brown Mayer, l.i.f.  r.i.f., Priestman Osborne, c.f.  c.f., Morris Gordon, r.i.f.  l.i.f., Spaeth Greene, r.o.f.  l.o.f., Tatnal

Score--Harvard, 0; Haverford, 1. Goal--Morris, 1. Referee--J. Bray. Linesmen--C. McC. Story 1L and P.C. Henderson '05. Timekeeper--R. Purcell. Time--35 minute halves.

During the past week the University team has been practicing daily on Soldiers Field. Enough candidates have reported to form three elevens. Team play has been developed by playing the forwards against the backs, and special attention has been devoted to dribbling and passing the ball.
