In Lower Mass. Last Night.--Regularity of Attendance Was Emphasized.

At the meeting of candidates for the track team held last night in Lower Massachusetts 251 men filled out cards. At the first meeting last year only 85 men were present.

Captain Dives emphasized the importance of beginning training at once with the view of entering the B. A. A. meet on February 10. Every effort, he said, will be made to develop new material. Men will be entered during the winter in other meets. Mr. Quinn, the new assistant trainer, will have especial charge of weight men. If possible a Freshman track team will be formed.

Trainer J. G. Lathrop said that the possibility of finding good men for the team was great because of the large squad of candidates.

F. W. Bird 3L., the next speaker, impressed on the men the importance of enthusiasm in work.

Coach Garcelon said that as track work takes but an hour a day he hoped that every man would come out to stay, realizing that he will thus help to win victories for Harvard.

For the work this winter squads have been arranged reporting at 11 and 12 o'clock in the morning, and at 3.30 and 4.30 o'clock in the afternoon.

Men will be allowed to report each day at whatever time they please, but as many as can conveniently do so are urged to come in the morning, since the afternoon hours are usually crowded. The program will consist of varied exercises in the Gymnasium followed by runs on the board track on Holmes Field for the sprinters, who will also have practice in starting. The distance men will take long runs on the roads. Regular attendance will be insisted on. Mr. Lathrop will be in the office in the Gymnasium from 9 to 6 o'clock every day except Sundays to advise with men.

The handicap games will come on April 13, followed by the class games on April 27. A consolation meet will be held on May 11 for those who fail to make the dual meet team. The dual meet with Yale will be held on May 19. The Intercollegiate meet will take place on May 25 and 26 and will be the last event of the year.
