Professor W. H. Schofield, Ph.D., '95 has been appointed chairman of the Department of Comparative Literature, which was established within the Division of Modern Languages at the last meeting of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Professor Schofield graduated from Victoria College, of Toronto, Canada, in 1889; and received the Harvard degrees of A.M. and Ph.D. in 1893 and 1895, respectively. In 1897 he became an instructor in English in the University; and in 1902 he was appointed an assistant professor in English. At a meeting of the Corporation on March 13, he was appointed professor of comparative literature, from September 1, 1906.

The announcement of the courses which will be given under the Department of Comparative Literature will be issued in about three weeks.
