CHANGE IN CREW ORDER

A change was made yesterday in the order of the University crew. Tappan, who has been rowing at number 3 on the second, went into the corresponding position in the University boat, and Emmons was moved to 7 on the second. Tappan rowed 2 at the beginning of the present season, but on March 14 he was shifted to the second eight. Recently he was changed from the port to the starboard side of the boat, where he rowed at number 3. Yesterday his form was smooth and his work vigorous, although his outrigger and stretcher were not adapted to his reach. The other men in the boat also rowed exceedingly well. Newhall at 7 has shown more improvement recently than any other man on the squad. He has overcome his tendency to start his body before his oar on the recovery, and he follows the rythm of the stroke much better than he did a week ago. Whitney coxswained yesterday instead of Blagden. In a row upstream as far as the Birghton bridge an unusually slow stroke was kept and Coach Wray paid special attention to lengthening the pull through the water. The men's catch was regular throughout, the boat spaced well and rode on a very even keel. The new shell, which is being built by W. H. Davy, of Cambridge, will probably be ready for use about May 1.

University crew--Stroke, Filley; 7, Newhall; 6, R. Bacon; 5, Richardson; 4, Glass; 3, Tappan; 2, Fish; bow, Flint; cox., Whitney.

Second crew--Stroke, Morgan; 7, Emmons; 6, Richards; 5, Corbett; 4, Gill; 3, Warren; 2, G. Bacon; bow, Wiggins; cox., Arnold.

Three Changes in Freshman Boat.

During the past week several changes have been made in the orders of the Freshman crews. Rackemann, Hanfstaengl and Ellis have been moved to 5, 3 and 2, respectively, in the first eight. Last Friday the three eight-oar crews and the four-oar rowed up-stream from the University boathouse as far as the Brighton bridge and back. The first crew showed marked improvement over their recent ragged work, and in a brush of about half a mile with the second crew gained almost a boat's length. Williams at stroke and Faulkner at number 7 showed a strong tendency to shorten their stroke at the finish, and Rackemann, who rowed 5, rushed his slide continually. Hanfstaengl at 3 also will need to improve to retain his seat in the boat. Yesterday his blade work was poor.
