HARVARD CREW QUARTERS, RED TOR, CT., June 16, 1907.-This morning several members of the University and Freshman squads attended church at Gales Ferry, and, in the afternoon, the University squad was given a sail in the house boat owned by Mr. Larz Anderson '88. The work on Saturday was light for all crews except the University four-oar, which covered about 7 miles in the afternoon. The University eight rowed over the four-mile course in the afternoon in 22 minutes and 33 seconds. This is the best time tat the crew has made so far this year, but the conditions were particularly favorable. At the start, Farely rowed about 36 strokes to the minute, but soon lowered his pace to 28 strokes. This rate was maintained over the entire course, with the exception of a slight raise at the two-mile mark, and at the finish. The rowing was very satisfactory and continual improvement has been shown lately. The men showed a tendency to rush their slides and to get out of unison on settling down to their stroke, after it had been raised, but this was much improved toward the end. In the afternoon, the Freshman eight and the University four-oar were given light practice. D. A. Newhall '06, number 7 on last year's University crew, visited the quarters on Saturday morning, and in the evening. A. Blake '99 arrived to spend Sunday. Dr. T. J. Manahan M. '98, medical adviser to the University and Freshman squads, arrived tonight to remain until after the races.
