EXPLORER BALDWIN IN UNION

Speaks at 8 on "Baldwin-Ziegler Expedition and Plans for Future."

Mr. E. B. Baldwin will speak on "The Baldwin-Ziegler Polar Expedition and Plans for Future Polar Research," in the Living Room of the Union this evening at 8 o'clock. The lecture, which will be illustrated by stereopticon views, will be open only to members of the Union. Mr. Baldwin will explain his new plan for reaching the North Pole by starting from the Behring Sea and drifting with the current across the open water around the Pole into the Greenland Sea.

Mr. Baldwin has already made several attempts to reach the North Pole. He served as meteorologist in the North Greenland expedition of Commodore Peary in 1893-94, and in the Wellmann polar expedition five years later. He established four depots of supplies from the south to the north coast of Franz-Josef Land as basis for a proposed dash for the Pole and three safety stations on the northeast coast for use on the return march. He was the first leader selected to head the Ziegler polar expedition in 1901-02.
