CREWS PROGRESSING WELL

Review of Week's Rowing.--Squad Reduced.--Difficulty at Stroke.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

During the past week the University crew squad has been reduced to 16 men and more attention has been given to the individual oarsmen than was possible before. The weather has been favorable and, except for the last two days, the river has been smooth.

In the first boat Sargent has been rowing regularly at stroke since replacing Morgan on Monday. The difficulty will be to develop a stroke whose reach is naturally long enough and steady enough for the rest of the crew to follow easily. Taken as a whole, the boat runs smoothly, but there is still a tendency to row straight from the arms and lose the shoulder swing, and to rush the stroke immediately after the finish. The second boat, stroked by Reece, contains a powerful crew, which may possibly represent the University in the Henley regatta at Philadelphia the last of May.

The orders of the crews are as follows:

Crew A--Stroke, Sargent; 7, Richardson; 6, E. Bacon; 5, Waid; 4, Lunt; 3, Severance; 2, Fish; bow, Faulkner; cox., Blagden.

Crew B--Stroke, Reece; 7, Marvin; 6, Lovering; 5, Wyman; 4, Morgan; 3, Tilton; 2, G. Bacon; bow, E. Cutler; cox., King.

The Freshman crews are not progressing very rapidly in form; their rowing is for the most part ragged and undeveloped. They are now under the supervision of Coach Wray, as Coach Stephenson is devoting his entire attention to the class crews. The first boat is distinctly the best, but its make-up is constantly being changed. Smith, who until recently rowed six, has been changed to the starboard side, going in at five, and Eaton has been put in his place.

The orders of the first three crews follow:

Crew A--Stroke, Cutler; 7, Hooper; 6, Eaton; 5, Smith; 4, Perkins; 3, Waite; 2, Foster; bow, Reece; cox., Fales.

Crew B--Stroke, Shillito; 7, Jowett; 6, Ellis; 5, Harding; 4, Sabine; 3, Shaw; 2, Richardson; bow, Hopkins; cox., Everett.

Crew C--Stroke, Peabody; 7, Oveson; 6, Withington; 5, Beane; 4, Baker; 3, Barker; 2, Hunter; bow, Jackson; cox., Coolidge.
