HARVARD, 3; PRINCETON, 2

The University hockey team defeated Princeton at the St. Nicholas Rink, New York, Saturday evening by the score of 3 to 2. This victory places the University team in the lead in the intercollegiate series, as it is the only team which has won two games.

The game was fast and close at all times and undecided until near the end of the second half, when, with the score 2 to 2, Hicks shot the deciding goal from the side-boards. The University forwards showed excellent team-play and their shots were hard and accurate. The superiority in the line, however, was offset by a weak defence, due to the fact that this was the first game in which it had been severely tried. Princeton's defence was very strong, continually turning aside shots that ordinarily would have counted. Hicks was the star of the game, and with Morgan excelled for Harvard, while Peacock and Read did the best work for Princeton.

In the first half, both teams scored twice. Soon after the face-off, after some fast playing in Princeton's territory, Gardner got the puck in a scrimmage and caged the first goal. Bush scored Princeton's first goal, receiving the puck from Coxe who had rushed it the length of the rink. The play was now open, and after several swift shots had been stopped by Peacock, Coxe snatched the puck from a scrimmage, scoring the second goal for Princeton. Just before the half closed, Hicks tied the score, receiving the puck from behind the net.

Scoring in the first part of the second half was only prevented by the good work of Peacock at goal, for the University forwards came down the ice together several times, but were unable to get by the opposing defence. Finally Hicks made the winning goal, lifting the puck from the side-boards. During the rest of the game the University team was obliged to play on the defensive.
