The University lacrosse team defeated the strong Columbia team in the first game of the Northern intercollegiate Lacrosse League in the Stadium yesterday afternoon by the score of 5 to 2. The teams played evenly in the first half, which ended in a tie, each side having scored twice, although Columbia had a slight advantage. The superior endurance and team-play of the University team began to tell towards the end of the game, and just before time was called three goals were scored in rapid succession.

The defence played a safe and consistent game, covering closely. The attack was erratic, but got together better in the second half as Columbia's defence weakened. Alexander, Cochrane, and R. P. Smith played the best for Harvard, while Kudlich and tough excelled for Columbia.
