Harvard Men Scored in Track Meet

In the annual track and field championship games of the New England Association of the A. A. U., held on Technology Field, Brookline, Saturday afternoon, a team composed of men from the University squad secured fourth place by winning 15 points. Though the Boston Athletic Association and the Brookline Gymnasium Association took first and second places respectively, their points were won largely by Harvard men, for S. C. Lawrence '10, E. K. Merrihew '10, and L. Watson '10 were entered from the former association, and H. W. Kelley '11, C. C. Little '10, and E. L. Parker '10 from the latter. In all University men won 48 points. Two records were broken. G. P. Gardner, Jr., '10 set a new mark in the low hurdles by covering the distance in 24 3-5 seconds. B. F. Sherman '05, with a throw of 147 feet, 5 1-2 inches, bettered his former record by 5 feet, 2 1-2 inches.

In the first event, the 100-yard dash, G. P. Gardner, Jr., '10 and L. Watson '10 took first and second places respectively. Gardner's time was 10 2-5 seconds. L. Watson '10 won the 220-yard dash in 22 4-5 seconds. The 440-yard run was won by E. K. Merrihew '10 in 52 3-5 seconds with H. W. Kelley '11 second. The Harvard men in the hurdle events were A. L. Besse '10 and G. P. Gardner, Jr., '10; the former came in second in the 120-yard hurdles and the latter won the 220-yard hurdles, in 24 3-5 seconds. R. F. Crane '05 won the high jump, with a jump of 6 feet, and S. C. Lawrence '10 was third, clearing 5 feet, 11 inches. In the broad jump C. O. Little '10 obtained second place with a jump of 21 feet, 2 1-2 inches and T. M. Gregory '10 third with 20 feet, 5 1-2 inches. Little also won the shot-put with 42 feet, 11 3-4 inches. In the pole-vault University men took all three places. E. L. Parker '10 won the event with 11 feet, 6 inches, S. C. Lawrence '10 was second, and J. A. King '12, third.
