THE BASEBALL GAME.

Today for the first time in 14 years the University baseball team will meet a professional nine on the diamond. This is one feature of a general awakening on the part of the athletic authorities, who seem to have come to realize that there is a certain satisfaction in winning, and that it is worth while to give the teams every opportunity for development.

The nine will learn much from even one professional game. All of the more important teams which it is to play during the season have received professional coaching, and many of them have games with professional teams. In preparing our nines to meet these teams which play the professional style of ball, there could be no better training than a contest with a league team. The game with the Boston Americans today will serve this purpose, and will, moreover, open the season with fast play which should quicken the team for the coming contests.
