After visiting New Caledonia, the Loyalty Islands, and the New Hebrides during June and July in connection with his Shaler Memorial Study of Coral Reefs in the South Pacific, Professor W. M. Davis attended during August the Australian meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science at Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. He was given the degree of Doctor of Science by the University of Melbourne. At Sydney he spoke before the Section of Geography on the "Coast of New Caledonia" and before the Section of Geology on "A New Evidence for Darwin's Theory of Coral Reefs." In the latter part of August and the first part of September, he made a short visit to the Great Barrier Reefs on the Queensland Coast of Northeastern Australia, and on September 11, sailed from Sydney via New Zealand to the Society Islands, where he will spend a month examining Tahiti and other members of that group. He plans to return to Cambridge early in November.
