ALL REGULARS GIVEN VACATION

Substitute Eleven Engages Freshmen in 30-Minute Scrimmage.

Yesterday was rather an off day for the football team, none of the regulars appearing on the field, as all the men who played for any length of time Saturday were excused from practice. Coach Haughton was also absent, the practice being in charge of his first lieutenant, Leo Leary '04.

The team of substitutes, however, showed a sudden improvement in form, scoring three touchdowns against the Freshmen in a 30-minute scrimmage, the latter team getting three points from a drop-kick. Willcox provided the sensations of the afternoon, getting away twice for 25-yard runs, one of which put the ball inside the 5-yard line, and resulted in a touchdown on the next play. The touchdowns were made by Whitney, Rollins and McKinlock, while McKinlock kicked two goals, missing his third try.

Horween secured the only score for the Freshmen, booting over a pretty drop-kick from the 10-yard line. The Freshmen were given the ball on the 10-yard line to try out the defense of the substitutes, but were unable to gain on line plays and were forced to kick.

Wallace was out in togs again yesterday for the first time since his injury in the Michigan game. He was kept out of the scrimmage, however, a few laps around the field constituting his work-out. It is expected that all the regulars will be out again today.

Coach Brown '98, the University scout, spent the afternoon in drilling the second team in a number of Yale formations and plays which will be used in practice against the University team later in the week. Some defensive preparation for the game a week from Saturday has already been made, when the Canadians spent a week here giving the team an opportunity to solve the multiple passing game.

The team lined up in the following order for yesterday's scrimmage with the Freshmen: L. Curtis and Greene, l.e.; Sigourney, l.t.; Conway, l.g.; Harris and Atkinson, c.; Underwood, r.g.; Elken and Kean, r.t.; Weatherhead, r.e.; Swigert, q.b.; McKinlock, l.h.b.; Rollins and Willcox, r.h.b.; Whitney and Felton, f.b
